There have been a lot of controversies about the privacy of users that are using messaging applications like WhatsApp. And due to the chats that were leaked in the past, this issues have intensified.

Users were beginning to query the end-to-end encryption of the app.

Therefore, WhatsApp gave its users the opportunity to back up their chats. Users are now given the opportunity to backup their chats everyday, every week, or every month.

The chats that were leaked increased the concerns of people as people began to ask questions about the credibility of the privacy features of the application.

These doubt might cause the messaging application to lose customer’s trust as users will look for other alternatives available in the market.

WhatsApp, in a bid to defend themselves against the growing doubt among their users claimed that only the recipients can access the senders message with end-to-end encryption. It was later revealed that the backup of chats on Google Drive or iCloud are not end-to-end encrypted and they can therefore hacked.

However, chats can now be end-to-end encrypted. WhatsApp has created a way by which a WhatsApp user can make sure that their chats are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be hacked.

WhatsApp now gives their users an alternative to decide whether they want to backup their chats or not. The messaging application also provided an option to backup their chats every day, every week, or every month. An option is also provided for users to decide whether they want their chats to get backed up over just WiFi or cellular connection as well.

If you want to keep your chats end-to-end encrypted, there’s a simple procedure to follow if you want to keep your chat end-to-end encrypted.

1.) Click on your WhatsApp application, tap on the three dots that is found in the top right corner and choose the setting options. For iOS, tap the settings option seen at the bottom right corner.

2.) You will notice the ‘Back up to Google Drive’ option in Android devices, but for iOS you will have to tap on the chat options and then click on backup.

3.) You will find five options, this includes ‘never’, ‘Only when I tap “Back up”‘ and the ones spoken of earlier. You can select either of the two options to secure your chats. On iOS devices, you just have to tap on the ‘Auto Backup” option and then turn it off.
